This Thanksgiving is different from most Thanksgiving for Minonk residents as we are still feeling the shock of losing a big portion of the downtown area to the devastating fire of October 26. As Thanksgiving is a time for giving thanks, we can be thankful that no one was injured or died in the fire. This Thanksgiving for Minonk residents is not so much about thanks but about hope. From the great fire we have hopes that the downtown area will be rebuilt, that Minonk can again be a thriving retail community.

Along with hope for the community, there must be a commitment to the community. Do more shopping at our local stores rather than going to Bloomington for everything. Get involved in the community. Be thankful that we live in a beautiful little town with a great residential area with good schools, low crime, no pollution, and good people. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
