Two of Minonk's most active volunteers, Cathy McKay and Jack Jochums, are retiring from their services. Cathy has served as the head of the Fourth of July Committee since 2000. During her tenure, Cathy worked tirelessly procuring volunteers, organizing and promoting the events, and raising funds. Under her direction, the Fourth of July celebration continued to be the main event of the year and continued Minonk's legacy as the place to be for the Fourth of July for the last 60 years. In addition, Cathy headed up the Christmas time luminary display for several years.
Jack Jochums Jack Jochums has been the announcer for the annual Parade of Lights since its inception 27 years ago and is retiring from that position. In addition, Jack has been the announcer for the Fourth of July parade and has been a member of the Village-Aires since its inception over 44 years ago. Jack also announced MDR football games for many years.

Cathy McKay holds a plaque given to her by the City of Minonk for her service to the community.
Both Cathy and Jack are to be commended for their volunteerism and involvement in the community. Small communities like Minonk depend on volunteers to make things happen. They serve as a role models for those who want to make Minonk a better community by following in their footsteps as volunteers of the future. Cathy will continue running the semi-annual Minonk garage sales while Jack will continue to be active in community affairs.
