This winter new features have been added to the MinonkTalk web site. A statistics web page has been added to the alumni section which includes the number of alumni by state, the number of alumni by city, number of alumni registered by class and the most common given names. It is no surprise that most alumni live in Illinois. The next states having the most alumni are in the following order: Arizona, California, Florida, and Texas. It seems pretty clear that alumni choosing to live elsewhere, prefer a warmer climate. Another interesting statistic is that David is the most common given name tied with John. It is no surprise that John is a very common name. What's interesting is that my name is David John Uphoff so I have the most common name possible, except, of course, for my last name. To view the alumni statistics, click on the Alumni link on the left of the MinonkTalk front page and then click on the "Alumni listing" link at the top of the Alumni Homepage and then click on the" Statistics" link at the top right of the Alumni Listing page. Another item has been added to the Minonk Township Cemetery Statistics web page. The most common last names and given names are listed similar to that on the alumni listing. What is interesting is the difference in the given names for those in the cemetery compared to the alumni given names. While David was the most common given name for the alumni listing, it ranked only 11th in the cemetery listing. Comparing female given names between the alumni listing and the cemetery listing is also interesting because of the different rankings of names. While Linda was the most popular alumni listing female given name, incredibly it is one of the least common names in the cemetery with only one name listed as Linda. Names like Gertude, Minnie, Lena, and Bertha were very common names among those in the cemetery but none of these names appear in the alumni listing except for Minnie which is listed once.

Another interesting feature on the Minonk Township web site is a listing of people who died on the day of the current date. To access this feature, click on the Minonk Cemetery link at the left of the main MinonkTalk web page and then click on the "Deaths on this date" link near the upper right of the web page. This will show who died on today's date. I look at it every day just to see if I remember any of those who died. For more information, you can click on the "View" button and look at additional data, including their obituary. I encourage viewers to update the burial records of loved ones with photos, articles or obituaries. To update a burial record, click on the "Burial records" link at the top of the Cemetery web page to bring up the list of burial records. To find a burial record, enter all of part of the last name in the "Search Value" box at the top of the Burial Records web page and then click the "Search" button. This will display the burial records matching the name entered. Then click on the "Detail" button at the left of the person's burial record. This will display the person's full burial record. At the bottom of the person's burial record page are links for entering an obituary, photos, and articles or for adding additional data. By entering burial data for your loved ones, you can perpetuate their memory among others. On the date of their death, they will be listed in the "Deaths this date" web page and people can be reminded of their presence here on earth.
