Heritage Manor Resident Brings Nativity Scene

This nativity scene in front of Heritage Manor in Minonk was put up by the family of Jane Spears who is a resident there.

Jane and her husband Ken originally put up the nativity scene at their home in Toluca.  Now that Jane is a resident of Heritage Manor she thought it would be nice to spread the spirit of the holiday season by erecting the scene at Heritage Manor.

Below is an article Jane published several years ago regarding the nativity scene.

The Christmas season is celebrated and observed in a variety of ways. It seems like everything changes during the month of December. Homes and trees are decorated with beautiful lights. You can find Santa Clause, Rudolph, snowmen and other ornaments and decorations just about everywhere. A lot of time and money is spent buying gifts. Christmas is so commercial these days. Stories and movies about Christmas are so varied. Even the music has changed. How many actual Christmas carols have you heard this year?

Have we forgotten the true meaning of this special season? What is happening to today's world is quite sad and disturbing. Christmas is not about having the most decorations and lights. It is about a single star. The gifts we give and receive aren't bought in a store and wrapped in pretty paper with ribbons.  The gifts of love, joy, hope and peace are freely given to us. It is not about the many characters we identify with as being the most significant during this now known "holiday" time. It is about a tiny baby being born in a manger.

Realizing that a portion of our property in Toluca would be a perfect setting for a nativity scene, we began a search several years ago for the necessary pieces to make it happen. Finally, what began as a family project evolved into a support team of friends completing. God provided just enough rainy or cold no-golf days to make this become a reality this year.
