Minonk Holds 2nd Annual Lighting of the Christmas Tree

Sunday, November 26, 2017 - Posted 8:10:58 PM
Minonk held its 2nd annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony Sunday night at the corner of Fifth and Chestnut under cool but pleasant weather for November. Hot chocolate and cookies were served by Grosenbach Grocery prior to the ceremony. Using the new sound system installed in downtown Minonk, MC Robert Hakes and Jack Jochums announced the start of festivities.

The ceremony started with a prayer by John McKay, Jr. and then the lights were turned on. Besides the Christmas tree there was a new addition of lighted reindeer that were animated. After the lighting, Christmas Carols were sung by the Village-Aires and donors to the Christmas tree were read.

The downtown Minonk area is beautifully lit for Christmas. To add to the holiday spirit, music will be played throughout the day with Christmas music on the new sound system recently installed.
