Tuesday, August 10, 2004 Posted 9:30 p.m.
People study the charts at the grade school site exhibit.
Minonk area residents attended a public exhibit describing the options for reorganizing the sites for the grade schools in the Fieldcrest school district. A paper describing the three alternative proposals was given to those in attendance. Attendees were asked to rank the three proposals in order of desirability and give their comments on the paper. The board of education plans to review the proposal rankings and comments. The board plans to make a decision on which proposal to adopt at the September 16 board meeting.

The three proposals presented were:

#3 - Maintain a K-4 in Minonk, Toluca, and Wenona, and consolidate grades 5 & 6 in Toluca and grades 7 & 8 in Wenona, high school in Minonk. This proposal was estimated to save the district around $120,000.

#5 - Maintain a K-2 in Minonk, a 3-5 in Toluca, and a 6-8 in Wenona, and high school in Minonk. This proposal was estimated to save the district around $160,000.

#6 -Maintain a K-4 in Toluca, 5-8 in Wenona, and high school in Minonk. (4th grade could be located in Toluca or Wenona as space permitted) This proposal would include closing the grade school in Minonk and was estimated to save $380,000.
