Fieldcrest Board Meeting Summary

Thursday, June 01, 2017 - Posted 10:02:14 AM by Dr. Dan Oakley
The Fieldcrest CUSD 6 Board of Education held its regular Board meeting on May 31, 2017. Members present were Mykin Bernardi, Joe Kirkpatrick, Charles Lohr, Kimberly McKay, Tim McNamara, and Beth Palm. Member Scott Hillenburg was absent. Also present were Superintendent Dr. Daniel L. Oakley, High School principal Bill Lapp, prospective teacher Marcia Shields, and a few community members.

The Board met in closed session to start the meeting to discuss personnel employment and student and staff concerns.

In Board action during regular session, the Board: approved the consent agenda; adopted an updated Board meeting calendar for the FY18 school year; adopted the required final school year calendar for the FY17 school year; waived the second reading of a Board policy update package and referred it to the Policy Committee; approved completion statements for HLS amendments 7 and 14; adopted a resolution of transfer of $400,000 from the Working Cash fund to the Education fund to cover deficits caused by a lack of mandated categorical payments from the state of Illinois; adopted a budget hearing resolution which sets the FY17 amended budget hearing for June 28, 2017 at 6:30 pm and posts the amended budget for public review; approved Directors' contract renewals for Sue Walber, Kevin Glowacki, and Tom Heidenreich; approved raises for non-FEA employees; and approved a purchase of Chromebooks for the FY18 school year.

In employment action, the Board: hired Nicholas Cincoti and Marcia Shields as teachers in the district for FY18; employed Michael Freeman as freshman boys football coach, JB Glowacki as senior class sponsor, Holly Jones and Christa Korstick as intermediate internal coaches, Phil Pully as high school technology aide and high school scholastic bowl coach, and Kristin Wilson as high school internal coach; and recognized Erin Barrow, Christy Kline, Laura Krischel, and Rebecca Rickman on their resignations from the district.

Mr. Lapp spoke regarding spring MAP testing and the very positive results shown in the testing.

Dr. Oakley noted the conclusion of a good year, and stated that the staff at Fieldcrest is the best staff he has worked with in 31 year, and was very congratulatory of the hard work put in by the staff. Dr. Oakley also noted that he had been part of the Illinois Superintendents' Press Conference in the capitol rotunda in Springfield Wednesday, and while the results of the efforts were questionable, it is the first time that he had seen superintendents from across all slices of the state come together to demand the legislature do the work they are called to do. He noted that this may bode well for future cooperation in getting things done legislatively in the state.

The Board briefly discussed a painting crew for the summer. The general consensus was that this was a good idea, and Dr. Oakley will be posting for a summer crew of one adult and two students. This should be able to get rolling around the middle of June.

The next regular Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 28 2017, at 6:30 pm at Fieldcrest High School band room, with closed session starting at 6:00 pm
