Heavy rains pelt Minonk

Monday, May 31, 2004 Posted 8:00 p.m.

Kids took turns being pulled on a snow ski through the waters flooding 4th street between Walnut and Lincoln Streets after Sunday's heavy rains.

Heavy rains fell on Minonk on Sunday. In the morning the area received 1.8 inches of rain in less than an hour. In the late afternoon another series of storms swept through the area bringing another 1.7 inches of rain for a total of 3.5 inches of rain for the day. Strong winds were associated with the rain. A tornado touched down near Secor, 10 miles south of Minonk. Farm fields were flooded and many streets in Minonk were flooded as well. Kids took advantage of the floods and took to the streets to play in the water. This spring has been marked by strong winds and heavy rain.
