Congressman Adam Kinzinger Appointed as House Conferee for Opioid Legislation

Tuesday, May 17, 2016 - Posted 5:50:52 PM by Rep. Adam Kinzinger
WASHINGTON, DC -This morning, Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) was appointed by Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) to represent the House and serve on a bipartisan conference committee to negotiate a final legislative package with the Senate to help fight the nation's opioid epidemic. Last week, the House took up a series of bills to address this issue, including Congressman Kinzinger's bill, H.R. 1818, the Veteran Emergency Medical Technician Support Act. This common sense legislation will help not only our nation's veterans and communities by improving the EMT certification process, but also the growing number of individuals impacted by an overdose that require care and transport to a hospital each year.

"Communities across the country are seeing the rise of opioid overdoses and the devastating effects," Rep. Kinzinger said. "I'm humbled to be appointed by Speaker Ryan to lead the House efforts in finding bipartisan solutions and ultimately finalizing the opioid legislation. I look forward to working with my House and Senate colleagues in getting this important legislative package to the President's desk, and seeing my bill, the Veteran EMT Support Act, signed into law."

As Speaker Ryan announced, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy will lead this conference committee. For the Energy and Commerce Committee, Rep. Adam Kinzinger will be joined by Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI), Rep. Joseph Pitts (R-PA), Rep. Leonard Lance (R-NJ), Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY), Rep. Larry Bucshon (R-IN), and Rep. Susan Brooks (R-IN).
