Sheriff cars may display ads

Friday, April 18, 2003 Posted 10:00 p.m.
Woodford County Sheriff Jim Pierceall is considering placing ads on the county's squad cars in an effort to save the taxpayers money. Pierceall said that Government Acquisitions, a company that sells advertising for police cars, purchases the vehicles and then leases them to departments for $1 for three years.

The ads are placed on the squad cars wherever they will fit into the striping on the car. Pierecall said that the program could save out of pocket costs of $100,000 for three cars. He said that the department is pre-approved for three cars, dependent upon selling the ads. Pierceall said the first car is expected within one year. The department will get a computer generated model of the car before delivery and has the right to reject advertisements.
