Burning

Keith, instead of posting on Minonk talk If you have a issue with your neighbor burning yard waste, why not go over and talk to them, you would get a lot more accomplished.

John D Frost

Keith Paris: Just saying people need to pay attention and be considerate of others. Came home to a house filled with stinky smoke, It wasn't a neighbor it was blocks over.
Gail Zack: And yet, instead of going over and talking to Keith, it is posted in minonk talk. Yes, that makes sense.

Burning

I would just like to thank the inconsiderate person on west 5th street for trying to burn the grass clippings and filling my house up with smoke. Be considerate and pay attention to which way the wind is blowing if you do burn. Better yet Do Not Burn. There are people who have medical conditions and the smoke interferes with they're breathing. It is getting to be that time of year but people need to be considerate of others.

Keith Paris

Brandi Kline Hofmann: Which neighbors would the smoke blow to if the wind changed direction? My son and I have asthma and on most nice days in the fall, people burn their leaves. It sucks but unless there is a ban, what can you do? My windows are closed most of the year because of spring allergies or fall burning. Oh, and its the city who burns on the north side. Control what you can and close your windows.
Lynn Barth Manning: Good luck people. I went to the council meeting last year to no avail. Asked for another option to consider and ban the burning and that’s as far as it went. A leaf vacuum would be nice. Maybe if more people went to the council and complained something might happen.
Becky Petta: Burning in town should be outlawed as it is in Bloomington..There are so many logical reasons why NOT to burn in the city!!! Consider your neighbors and if they have medical conditions!!!!
Byron Good: I close my windows when a neighbor is burning something. (Often)
Maribeth Springer: Absolutely right Keith.
Patrick Copp: It was on 4th Street. (Burning)
JoAnn Ruestman: So right! Thanks Keith

Sewer treatment plant clean up offer still on the table.

Mary Francis and all residents of Minonk. The offer to clean up the concrete from the sewer treatment plant is still on the table. This is an opportunity for the City to save taxpayers money and work with a local business. I would ask all residence that are tired of this type of actions taken by the city to petition your council people and Mayor and let them know your position on these issues. They are elected to represent us the residents.

Respectfully,
Justin Faulk

Thank you for supporting 2nd Annual TwinPossible Scavenger Hunt

We want to thank everyone who participated in the 2nd Annual TwinPossible Scavenger Hunt. There were 11 teams competing to find various items along with hidden minions. The top three teams were: 1st place "Bob, Dave, Kevin, and Stuart", 2nd place "Twin It to Win It", and 3rd place "Small but Mighty". The three teams won cash prizes and graciously donated the money back.

The raffle items were also drawn at the scavenger hunt. Megan Lawrence won the Maui Jim sunglasses and Pam & John Travers won a certificate from Mennie Machine Company. Between the TwinPossible Scavenger Hunt and the raffle, $4,000 was raised for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, and Aviation Angels of Hope.

We want to thank our Fieldcrest community sponsors for your support. Thank you for your continued support for St. Jude and all of the fundraising events held by our local St. Jude runners. Your support is making a difference in families with children fighting cancer.

Food Pantry Donations

Halloween isn't over and yet when you go into any store, you will see Christmas items. Although we don't want to skip over any holiday, the truth is that we must plan ahead—even when we are celebrating something else. The same is true of the Minonk Food Pantry. Our November pantry day will be November 2 when many clients will be picking up items they can use in their Thanksgiving dinners. Then before we know it, it will be December 7, when clients will be picking up items for their Christmas dinner. Many people have asked how they can help the pantry. Any items you think someone might use in making a dinner are welcome. We also plan to give out gift certificates for clients to use in November and December to help buy the meat of their choice at Grosenbach's, so monetary donations are also appreciated. We are truly blessed in a small community that everyone is generous and willing to help friends and neighbors who need assistance. Thank you for all donations we receive.

Sewer Plant Clean Up

I am confused, just a year ago local business men offered to clean all the mess up for free, if the city would allow them to grind concretefor 2 days, now the city wants it's tax payers to spend $10K to clean this up. Right after they put a surcharge on everyone water bill? Either the city has money or they don't they need to stop wasting it.

Mary Francis

Michael Cave: Always easy to spend someone else's money...
Kirsten Waters: I agree with you Mary!
Jaime Greene Ruestman: Thanks Mary
Bethany Carey: Agreed

Hydrant Flushing

The Minonk Public Works Department will be flushing fire hydrants The week of October 16th

What's in the 2018 GOP Budget Bill

What is included in the GOP budget plan:

$1T cut from Medicaid over 10 years - if you receive Medicaid insurance from Illinois, look for it to soon disappear.

$475B cut from Medicare - Those with Medicare can look for the insurance to slowly disappear over the next 10 years. The budget also leaves open Speaker Ryan's plan to replace current Medicare with his Voucher system. The difference is the voucher system will at minimum double the out of pocket costs to seniors such as premiums.

$660B cut from Housing aid and SNAP (Food Stamps) - Big cuts for these two programs.

$100B from Pell Grants - Got children going to college on Pell Grants? Not very much longer.

The earned income tax credit and child tax credit will be phased out over 10 years raising your taxes over the next 10 years.

Good summary of the cuts: https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/5/22/15676490/trump-budget-2018-explained

It's belt tightening time, people. Also, prepare to live without health insurance. Good luck.

OH BTW, THE RICH GET A $2T TAX CUT.
