Unsolved Murder not on Website

There were two murders in the Town of Minonk why was not my cousins death in there. Kathy Jean Tucker was murdered on December 2 1978. Her murder was never solved and the case went cold untill this year and has been reopened by Woodford County.

Kristopher Odell

Editor's reply: There have been more than two murders in Minonk over the years. This website does not cover all murders. The only murder covered on this website is the Ella Martin murder because it was included in the Minonk History section which covers the time period up to 1955.

David Howell: Hi Kristopher, Would you please elaborate on Kathy Tuckers' case?
Janet Green Clevenger: Did you see the Pantagraph article?

Cats in Minonk

Just throwing this out there. I understand a big aggressive dog at large is a major issue and needs addressed immediately but I would really like to see something done about the stray and unrestrained cat population in town. I personally don't have a cat but I can't tell you how many times I've come home at night to a cat jumping from my patio furniture.

Kenny Howell

Tammy Weiland: Omg yes. So tired of the cats tearing up garbage! If the cat is your pet, treat it as one. Keep inside!

Christina Torres:
I agree with you if you go sit up town around midnight there are cats everywhere but I was told Woodford CO Don't do anything about cats anymore.

Vicious Dog

Judy, The local authorities HAVE been notified - more than once - by more than one person. The excuse given was that Woodford County Animal Control is temporarily out of business. According to Minonk policies it should then be addressed by the city administrator. The city administrator has refused to check into the situation.

Sherri Stokowski

Throwing It Out There

I'm addressing a couple of issues I've had lately with the police department.

I'm very proactive in teaching my kids about some of the dangers in this world. Our town has an abundance of sex offenders. There's a list of them on the State Police web-site. So, I drove around town, showing my children where these people lived. I found it disturbing that one of their homes lacked a house number. The State Police informed me that sex offenders are not required to display their address...I was told that it's up to the local government and police department to make that decision.. I then discussed this issue with the chief. He told me that he checks in on these people all of the time; making sure that they are following the "rules". He then told me that the issue of the house number would be addressed and enforced. Several months later this person's house is still numberless.

And secondly, the bushes on the corner of 8th and Oak are obstructing the view of the intersection. In order to see traffic from the East, coming from the South, you must pull out into middle of the intersection. The city guys are unable to fix this problem without the okay from the police department; their hands are tied. Now, a few months later, this issue has yet to be resolved. I've been tempted to go down and trim them myself..but, I don't want to get into trouble with the law. Oh, wait, shoot, that only happens if you step outside of your jurisdiction in order to save someone's life.....Just sayin'

Rhonda White

Melissa Krone: The corner of 8th and oak the bushes have always been like that. They do block your view ppl have just been lucky not to get hit when pulling past stop sign to look for traffic. I guess it depends on the officer you deal with and if they think it's important enough to address

TRESPASSING

Sure hope the person or persons who cleaned off ALL of the peaches from Mom & Dads tree are enjoying them. !!!!! Got a FREEZER FULL TOO ? ! Pretty selfish of you since we just recently lost him. Hard enough to have to deal with that. Dad loved letting B pick some of Wa's peaches, she won't get to this year, Dad was always very generous and shared them, we might have too, but now we can't, this was probably our last year for them. Sleep well knowing NONE of Fred & Irma Bakers family got to enjoy what you ARE !

The Family

Marsha Anderson: Very sad besides peaches, people from Minonk steal water. Sad, sad, sad.

Fieldcrest Schools to Be Dismissed Early on Monday

Good afternoon. This is Dan Oakley, superintendent at Fieldcrest schools. Due to heat issues in our buildings, Fieldcrest schools will dismiss early Monday, with dismissal at 1:20 pm. Afternoon bus routes will run about 1.5 hours earlier than normal. Again, Fieldcrest schools will dismiss at 1:20 pm Monday. The weather forecast for the remainder of the week looks good right now, so any further early dismissal calls past Monday will be made on a day-by-day basis based on actual temperature in buildings.

There have been a few questions regarding precautions being taken during the eclipse. The administration at each building will be taking age-appropriate precautions regarding the eclipse.

Practices times and games for Monday are left to the coach and building principals' discretion.

Mr. Lapp has also asked me to remind high school students to bring a cereal box if they are interested in constructing an eclipse viewer.

Have a great evening!

Dr. Dan Oakley

Jt information

Hello

Don't know if this will even matter with me saying it, But JT needs to be reinstated he is fair in his job does not take sides and is the best cop anyone could ask for. You want people to be proud that we are from this town and live here then don't take one of the best things that could ever happen to thus town away reinstate him and make him the chief. It would be one of the best decisions this town has made in a long time. I know JT personally and know that he is here for this community.

Christina Talbert

Vicious German Shepherd

Through the years we have had many incidents of roaming and barking dogs in our neighborhood. We always call our local police, and they have taken care of the situation for us.

Judy Marcoline

Vicious German Shepherd

I've been hearing stories about a German Shepherd on West 8th Street that has been attacking people. I also hear complaints have been made but no action taken. One kid was bitten in the buttocks as he went by on his bike, another bitten in the ankle, and a woman bitten on her arm as she went by on her bike. This certainly sounds like a vicious dog. I remember the day when dogs were put down because of this behavior. The main reason for my email is to let people know to avoid this area. Come on Minonk - let's not wait until someone is maimed or even killed before something is done.

Sherri Stokowski

Rhonda Yeagle: White I walk my dog all the time. Thank you for letting me know. I would hate to encounter this dog while walking mine. W 8th and what intersecting street?
Dan McGuire: White house on the corner of 8th and lincoln
Rhonda Yeagle White: That's what I thought. It's right across the street from Tiger's house. I walked by there one day, without my dog, and he came after me but the owner was there and called him back.
Nicole Embery: It actually got ahold of others? I hadnt heard that! I know we have seen it chasing other kids but had not heard it had bitten other people....good to know! Thank you for the info
Krista Keene Cunliffe: And if it was a pitt it would already have been put down smh....
Suzanne Novak: In a town this small someone out there has to know who the owner is! That is who is responsible, not the dog! Destroying a dog will not solve anything! This irresponsible owner would probably just get another! There are agencies and rescues that could maybe help .. destroying a dog that has probably been taught this behavior is not the answer! Like children, dogs are not born with this behavior.

Small Town Blues

Dave, as I read the news on the web site it seems there is always something with the police force in Minonk - sure was a much simpler time when Wayne ( chopper) just told you to stop doing that and go home.
I thought I would share with you some of what our police force in a small town of about 20k deal with - Forest Grove is known for the police reports it issues around the area - they can be very funny at times.
Click here for police log at Forest Grove, OR or here.
