History repeats itself, How soon we forget!

I remember back in the early 1970's there was a group who said we needed a new gymnasium. The old one was condemned, a new one was built onto the old one, and then all of a sudden, it was found, that we really didn't need the new gym after all. All of this, after the citizens voted against building it. There are valuable lessons to be learned from the past. Unfortunately, some people can't see past the end of their nose. Keep the school you've got, and be happy with it. They can't afford to continue the extracurricular programs, and sports, so how are they going to build a new school? Just like government does everything else. Build it now, then let future generations pay for it, once the originators, are long since dead and gone. bureaucrats suck.

School Board Decisions

Ladies and Gentlemen:

At a time when we are all watching the candidates jockey for position in the National political arena and questioning their honesty and transparency may I suggest you examine in yourselves what you expect from those candidates. Don't we as taxpayers, parents, and residents of these communities deserve as much? Secrecy for items other than personnel or student issues have no place in a group that is supposed to represent the community. We deserve to see in writing not only the decisions the Board of Education is making but WHY they are being made. And answer the questions the residents are raising in writing in the local paper. By saying nothing or little only raises distrust.

Why are you considering/deciding to build a new school ?
What will happen to the old ones ?
Does the cost include the associated expenses that will occur in addition to the buildings ?
How do you expect the community to pay for this ?
Are we moving students from Fieldcrest South to Fieldcrest East when that building is in worse condition than Fieldcrest South ?
Why did you waste our time in completing a survey (not to mention the expense of paper/postage) that appears to be ignored ?

Please provide the people who elected you the courtesy of not being treated like we don't matter. The resolution you are deciding to sign states three time the "Board of Education..." NOT the people of District #6 who wants these changes - that is a huge difference. Please take the time to consider my concerns and reply to the public, not to me. If no public comment is made it is as good as telling all of us that you don't care what we think...

Comments on trophy hunting

I have been a hunter as long as I can remember. I never, EVER killed anything, for "FUN". That's what tin cans are good for. I like pheasant, and squirrel, rabbit, and venison, wild turkey, and quail. I hunted to supplement my meals, with game, as did the pioneers before me. Most people don't stop to think, that when they buy a steak in the store, an animal had to be killed in a slaughter house to supply that steak. So that person, in a round about way, is killing animals just like the hunters, but they are paying someone else to do their dirty work.
After hearing about some of the sadistic practices, that go on in some of the slaughter houses, I think I'd prefer to humanely kill my deer, rather than allow some sadistic freak, to have his FUN, and torture the hogs, and cattle they kill.
I don't hunt any more, because I don't like to kill anything, for any reason. I'm becoming a vegetarian, rather than a meat eater.I see trophy hunters as blood thirsty savages. They kill for the sheer joy of killing something, that would otherwise kill, and eat them, if they didn't have their guns, to protect themselves.
Maybe if they have such a blood lust, they should go off to war, where THEY are the hunted. Once they spend a few days and nights in a muddy, flooded, leech infested foxhole, facing a cunning enemy, and stare death in the face every day, dodging artillery shells, small arms fire, sappers, and enemy sniper fire. Being sleepless, for days on end, in the rain, and being bitten by mosquitoes, to the point of near insanity, they may not be so quick to kill, after they are civilians again.
Maybe the human population of the earth, will poison itself into extinction, with ag chemicals, preservatives, exhaust fumes, and pharmaceuticals. Or exterminate itself through thermonuclear war, thus, saving the animal population, from total destruction. In the case of nukes, the worms, some sea life, and cockroaches, will survive. It sure looks like we're headed that way. If big business proceeds as it is now, We probably don't have another century, to inhabit this planet.

DEAR BOARD OF EDUCATION

WHAT PART OF "NO" DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND? THE PEOPLE OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT DO NOT WANT A NEW SCHOOL. THEY TOLD YOU THAT IN TWO SURVEYS, BUT I KNOW YOU FOLKS THINK YOU ARE MORE INFORMED THAN THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

I'VE BEEN INVOLVED WITH MANY DIFFERENT BOARDS OF EDUCATION AND ADMINISTRATORS, AND THEY FAIL TO LISTEN TO PUBLIC SENTIMENT.

WHERE ARE ALL OF THE ADMINISTRATORS (SUPERINTENDENTS & PRINCIPALS) THAT GOT US INTO THIS MESS? GONE! THEY MAKE THE DECISIONS FOR OUR COMMUNITIES AND THEN LEAVE. YOU BOARD MEMBERS WILL PROBABLY LIVE IN THESE COMMUNITIES FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIVES, BUT HOW LONG WILL THE ADMINISTRATORS STAY WITH US?

FROM WHERE IS THE MONEY COMING FOR THIS NEW PROJECT? THERE ARE FEWER JOBS IN THE AREA, THE SCHOOL DISTRICT IS IN FINANCIAL TROUBLE & THE STATE OF ILLINOIS DOESN'T KNOW UP FROM DOWN!

SO, IF A NEW COMMON CAMPUS IS ESTABLISHED, WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE CURRENT SCHOOL BUILDINGS? HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TO TEAR DOWN THE OLD SCHOOL BUILDINGS, OR WILL WE DESERT THEM & ALLOW THEM TO DETERIORATE & DETRACT FROM OUR COMMUNITIES?

JACK MARCOLINE
FORMER MDR/FHS TEACHER FOR 38 YEARS

Marion Masek: why can't everyone see how a single campus is going to save money for the schools so they will be able to pay for the new building and not keep putting the school in such debt.

Kevin Persic: Put up wind turbines for the school and save money on electricity. Illinois Wesleyan has one that runs the college.

Tina Dunning: Thanks for saying what a lot of us are thinking!!!!!!

Gary Porter: Well said, the money would likely come from a raise in taxes for many years to come. Long after, more than likely the people who wanted and put in place a referendum to do so, would be long gone. We now live in a tax and spend foolishly society.

Richard Williams: I for one would love to see all three of my kids in one place rather than three buildings in three different towns.

Nicole Southwick: Even though I no longer live in the district, I was SHOCKED when I read the Board is going to continue to look into building a common campus even though TWICE it was shown residents don't WANT it. Talk about not listening to the people. I pray for this district in this time of adversity and hope a resolution all can be happy with is found.

Julie Joyce: Well said Jack!

Chris Oakley: How can a school board that can't balance a budget be trusted with a multimillion dollar project? We do not have a strong tax base to support this type of venture. So suck it up buttercup and do the best you can with what you have.

Jeff Weiland: MARCO!! This man might be Minonk's greatest resident! Well said Mr. Marcoline!

Kevin Lindley Sr. I'm with you Jack!!

Trophy Hunting

Dave
Yes the poaching is horrible killing the animal for a part and letting it lay. But when people go to Africa to hunt lion or Elephant any big animal it's called Trophy hunts but it really isn't to the definition of a Trophy hunt. This is since the animal is used for food over there. A hunter is not allowed to bring the meat back into this country nor is it allowed legally to leave Africa. Once the animal is brought down it is skinned and butchered and given to the local tribe. A few months ago when the guy from Texas paid $350K to go with African Government to shoot a old male Rhino that was no longer mating. When this animal was killed the local tribe had a celebration since they were able to get a huge amount of meat and feed the tribe for a long time.
