Lemonade/Shake-Up stand at the Minonk 4th of July Events

LOOK for the Lemonade/Shake-Up stand at the Minonk 4th of July Events, Saturday through Monday's fireworks. Two young 5 year old ladies are participating in the University of Illinois - Academy for Entrepreneurial Leadership - Lemonade Day.

These enterprising young ladies will be selling lemonade and homemade lemon shake-ups throughout the day.

After their operating costs are paid and their spread sheet is balanced they will be donating most of their profits to the Vascular Birthmark Foundation.

Please help these young ladies in their first entrepreneurial effort and stop by their lemonade stand for a cool glass of lemonade or a great lemon shake up. They are looking forward to your business and serving you.

Emily Zivney Memorial Service

"I would just like to post a reminder about my Mother's, Emily Zivney's memorial service at 2 p.m. at the Minonk United Methodist Church on Sat. June 18th. This is just the service. Burial will be at a later date. It would mean so much to my Dad, Ray to see family and old friends at this time, as he is feeling very lost. Thank you to everyone and please keep him in your prayers.

clarification on source

I am a rather bad typist and I having problems with my home computer so I did not underline or quote "Reticent Germans".
It is a downloadable PDF which I found on an East Friesian geneological site
but is easily found by a Google search.
It is in English but nearly all the titles found in the footnotes are out of print German ones by presumably defunk MidWestern publishers with publication dates between 1900 and 1917. Coverage Centers on Golden ,Benson Peoria and even Champaign Co. with only one line on Minonk.

Most of the websites for learning Plattdeutsch seem to be about the Mennonite dialects which are Russian/Ukranian German .So far I have found only snippets for audiofiles for Oost Friesian dialects and the related Oldenburg dialects.

Thanks Viet Veteran For World War 2 Plaque

Dear Dave;
Sandy McPherson from Rutland has installed a World War 2 plaque at the Petri brothers sign at the north edge of Minonk which commemorates their service in World War II. Sandy, who is a disabled Vietnam veteran, has been going to different cemeteries and installing these plaques at the graves of World War 2 veterans. One of the reasons he wanted to put a plaque at the Petri Brothers commemorative sign is because Gene Petri used to do work for him. I think Sandy should be recognized for his contributions and I wish to thank him for the plaque he put at the sign for my brothers.

Minonk Nature Trail

I was wondering who was in charge of the up keep of the nature trail? It was great in the early spring, because the grass was short. As we have moved into summer the grass has grown a lot. I know that I would use it more if the grass on the path was cut.
Just curious. Thanks.

Minonk Parade of Lights

As chairman of the Minonk Business Association Parade of Lights for 27 years, I would like to thank everyone who helped in any way to make this event a success. So many people are involved in making this an annual event for the city of Minonk and the surrounding communities.

Those who helped in the organization of the first parade. Those who helped in the
Preparation of floats, advertising and all that goes into the pre-parade planning and the day of the parade. To those who entered floats and those who sponsored floats in the
Parade. To the city crew, fireworks crew and ESDA who have been so co-operative and willing when asked to help. To all who come out regardless of the weather to take in this special event and support the businesses. Oh yes, to Mr & Mrs Santa for making a stop at the annual Parade of Lights for 27 years. What would the parade be without them.

I have decided to step down as the chairman of this event. It was a fun 27 years to see the huge crowds grace the parade route and usher in the Holiday Season.

Hopefully someone will step forward to keep this tradition going. The enjoyment of providing this for Minonk and surrounding towns is worth the effort.

If anyone or group is interested in continuing the Parade of Lights please give me a call or contact the Business Assoc. or City Hall.

Again, a special thanks to all. It has been a fun ride for all involved.

Minonk is a special place to live and special events are so important to our success as a community reaching out to all.

Thanks to Supporters of Fieldcrest FOCUSED Group

Thanks to everyone who has impacted the Fieldcrest FOCUSED group this year. Because of you we have achieve a great accomplishment. FHS FOCUSED team has been chosen to be in the top ten for tier II in Project Ignition. This means national recognition in the US!! Our group will be traveling to Minneapolis MN on April 11-14, 2012 to give a presentation and set up a booth at the National Youth Council Convention!

We could not have done it without our students, staff , administration, friends and newspaper support! The FHS communities have been wonderful and the city council support was FANTASTIC. We are so Lucky to have such great supporters who are putting it out there for us to be a success!. What does this mean?? It means a lot more hard work for next year, but we are up to the challenge!

After 365 students and staff took the pledge this school year, our motto for next year is "Keep the pledge alive, don't text and drive" We are hoping to spread the word with newspapers, TV, and radio! We want to continue the pledges we took and bring in others to do the same!

Thanks Again!! With all of your support we can and will make a difference.

Please check out our video and the project ignition web site.

Plattdeutsch

Reticent Germans: The East Frisiesians in Illinois has Minonk as the south tend of the Illinois Central as having, unlike the other towns mentioned as containing South Germans and even East Prussians in addition to the predominent East Friesians?
Would the latter being a rather divergent Mundart of Plattdeutsch have influenced the spoken -not written -dialect of German spoken in Minonk?
