Minonk Rotary Club and Minonk Legion

I am looking for information on the Minonk Rotary club and the Minonk Legion. I need to contact someone from each organization. Can anyone help me?

Eric Clevenger

Stephanie Hamper:Eric, there is no Minonk Rotary club. There are Rotary clubs in Toluca and Wenona, but not Minonk. (I'm a Minonk resident but member of the Toluca Rotary)
Kirsten Waters:I am part of the Legion. You could also contact Larry Meils, Chop Jacek, Melvin Matter, Larry Falk, or Dave Shirley.

School

I think the school board members have !ost their mind. Can you not make up your own mind ? Why does it a!ways have to be the superintendents wishes and not the wishes of the people they are suppose to represent.I don't understand why we need a bigger gym if the student population is dec!ining

Baseball Field In Minonk

The Board of Education wants to build a new baseball field for $75,000 minimum. The last time I looked, Minonk still has a baseball field where hundreds of high school games were once played. And they also want to add a new gym to the new school.

Since I have spent over 80% of my life involved with sports, I think they should spend even more money of the communities tax money and build an indoor swimming pool, ice rink for winter sports, and last, but not least, an all weather track so we can once again have home track meets.

The new facilities would really encourage families to move into our school district.

Jack Marcoline

Chevonne Leslie Llamas: Everything you said, I agree completely! I know that a lot of people stopped doing track in high school because of the fact stated above. Also, everything else that you stated is something that many people have been wanting for a long time. No one is going to want to move into a community where they can't afford to send their kids to school especially when there aren't any "activities" to do with the family.
Lindsey Skaggs: These are all great ideas! Love the idea of a swimming pool! That would generate a lot of money and people! I've always wondered why the girls play softball on the minonk field but the boys play in Wenona?!
Kenny Howell: We have a company 12 miles to the south that has been in the steel building industry for nearly 40 yrs and would be a great option. 1
Kenny Howell: Forgive me if I'm wrong Mr Marcoline but I read your post as sarcasm. Perhaps if the board would go with the building advisor suggestion of a metal building, which by the way is what most modern buildings are and can be very attractive and cost affect...See More
Josh Jones: Great ideas except for the fact that we probably won't even be able to afford what we are gonna be forced into getting anyways.
Kristen Amigoni: How come high school baseball can't be played in Minonk anymore? Forgot reasoning for that

David Dunham: Has to do with the fence, I believe I heard it is not far enough back for high school baseball. Not sure if this is true but what I was told.
Monica Naylor Kalkwarf: I would think it would cost much less to adjust a fence/work on the current baseball field? No, it would not be state of the art, but if it's IHSA compliant, the softball girls and boys would be together which makes it a lot easier for other schools since games are often played at the same time. Let's not forget, these are HS sports-not college or professional.
John Mcgough: Well said Jack
Cody Weber: There's s few things that'll play a part in bringing people to the community.
Community Rec Center (where the pool and track should reside, lease to the school to alleviate costs on both sides)
Rejuvenated and full-sprectrum stores and restaurants. The town needs more restaurants, especially a community breakfast place for people to enjoy small town life.
Better education. This is the single biggest driving factor in my opinion. People don't want to and won't come to the school district, regardless of facilities, if the curriculum and test scores continue to decline. Certain grade levels and classes appear to be at least average or above average with regard to statewide assessments but overall, it's a sub-par K-12 education.
Sports facilities are great, Marco, but they don't mean squat when paired with floundering education, a less-than-certain future community growth and 3A athletic programs that aren't viewed as perennial powerhouses.
All this said, I think you were being sarcastic.
Lynn Barth Manning: Why are we sinking money into a state that has no money, is one of the most corrupt states and the state continues to take more and more of our money to fund their corruption? Illinois has nothing to offer anyone and I say we follow suit with a good part of our population and move elsewhere.
Kim Tarmann: I'm working on those very last two words Lynn! 😉
Lynn Barth Manning: Kim Tarmann we are too when Terry retires.
Kenny Howell: Lynn Barth Manning I'm right behind you.
Jill Ludwig: Enough spending money we don't we on things that we don't need. How about trying to find ways to bring businesses and Life back into Minonk!
Jim Clanin: There may be a great tennis player in school. Let's build a couple tennis courts. What about a talented trap shooter? Let's build an Olympic-style trap range for them. Let's not forget bobsledders and lugers. We can build a bobsled run for them. Why can't we do all these things? Because they cost money and the school district doesn't have any. And when they start building the new school, the taxpayers are going to have less money in their pockets. if you want these extravagant sports venues, you donate the money to cover the cost of building them and equipping the teams.
Kim Tarmann: Track facility has my vote first and foremost.
Zoey Baker: The track team has gone without for many years, yet still brings home a lot of hardware for Fieldcrest. This would be a great addition
Amanda Greenland: The fact that we don't have a track has been an embarrassment for decades.
Sara Herman: I was told years ago that the people who donated the millennium park wanted something like this there with a pool an such like the rexplex in pontiac. Wonder why it wasn't built with the money left to build it instead of what was put out there?

asbestos abatement

I don't understand the asbestos abatement bid for Minonk grade school. Kent Lumber did state mandated abatement years ago. For further info on this you might check with Harold Tjaden since he worked on this project.

Memorial for Glenna Marie Vining

Dave. This is Jeff Davis. I've been getting a lot of calls and emails about what time my sister Glenna Marie Vining's memorial is on Saturday. I was wondering if you could put something in the MinonkTalk webite reminding folks that are unaware that services are at 11 AM this Saturday at Saint Pats?

Questions on Summer Drama Camp

Everyone:
Wondering if there will be Summer Drama Camp again this year? I believe that was what it was called but I could be wrong. Might not have been called a camp.
If there is what are the dates for that event?
Thanks

Cathy McKay

Janelle Olson: I asked the HS and they told me they are not doing it this year but maybe next year
