Minonk accepts written agreement to aid its neighbors

Saturday, July 24, 2004 Posted 10:50 p.m.
During the city council meeting on July 19, the council approved an written policy that states Minonk will help neighboring towns in times of emergency.

The City of Minonk has had a standing unwritten policy regarding giving aid to its neighbors, however the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently mandated that every municipality have a written public works mutual aid agreement.

City Administrator Trent Smith stated that there is absolutely no difference in the written policy than the passed unwritten policy.

The agreement to render aid states that Minonk and neighboring governmental units have rendered mutual aid to one another in the past, and anticipated a continuing demand for such mutual aid and cooperation in the use of their personnel and equipment in the future, for the safety, health and welfare of the people of their governmental units during times of emergency. Minonk agrees to become partners in providing aid to each party in the agreement.

OTHER DISCUSSIONS:
* The structural component for the food pantry addition to council chambers will arrive on July 26, stated city administrator, Trent Smith. The next step in the process will be to assemble the building.

* Jane Hovey was hired by the city for the part time administrative position.

* TIF coordinator Bob Rychlicki from Kane McKenna will not be able to attend a meeting until August 16.
