Murry Willmont Slater - July 14, 2002

Murry Willmont Slater 76 of 420 E. 4th Street Minonk formally of Park Forrest passed away at 12:45 A.M. Sunday July 14, 2002 at his residence. His funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Minonk with the Rev. Russell Jackson and Rev. David Dryer officiating. Burial will follow in Minonk Twp. Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Minonk American Legion Post. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk and one hour before his services Wednesday at the Church. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church, Minonk.

Mr. Slater was born on February 26, 1926 in Blackford County Ind. the son of A.B. and Nora P. Bartlett Slater. He married Helen M. Hall on January 29, 1950 in Grabill Ind.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, two daughters Deborah M. (Dan) Cargill of Minonk, Sarah A. Slater and husband Tom Ryan of Henry, two step-grandsons Jason and Jon Cargill, three sisters Marjorie Gordon of Muncie IN, Alta Edie of Colorado Springs CO, Tudie Dryer of Battlecreek Mi., two brothers Norman Slater of Florida, and Marion Slater of Hartford City MI.

His parents two brothers, one sister and two grandchildren preceded him in death.

A navy veteran of WWII He served on the USS Tate in the Pacific Theater.

He worked as a Journeyman mold maker of the Kerr Glass Company in Plainfield, IL for over 20 years retiring in 1991.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Minonk, the Minonk American Legion Post 142, the Cedar Masonic Lodge post 124 in Morris and the Mold Maker-s AFGW Union.

Murry loved his family, neighbors, and talking to people, He was an avid gardener and loved flowers.
