It is with wonder and total amazement when I hear and read about President Bush and his so-called bipartisan group of senators who are pushing for comprehensive immigration reform tell us how this will secure the homeland and address our ever increasing immigration dilemma. What do these people not know or understand about the definitions of illegal as in illegal alien; rule of law as in government by law and adherence to due process of law which is both predictable and consistent; and secure the borders which is stopping people from illegally crossing the border in the first place and restoring integrity to our country's existing immigration laws? Before any new laws are enacted we need enforcement of existing laws contained in the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. If you do not secure the borders what is the purpose of the rest of the proposed legislation other than lip service to make us feel good and secure, but results in only amnesty for millions of lawbreakers? The borders must be secured first and this will take a period of time. What is the "rush" with resolving the issue of the estimated 12 to 20 million already here illegally? One thing that we all know for sure, they are in no hurry to go back to where they came from. Granting amnesty to these illegal immigrants without securing the borders will only result in millions more coming here in the future. The United States can not accommodate every person in the world that would like to come here.

President Bush should give us break and stop the empty political rhetoric and pandering he is attempting to sell to the public as comprehensive immigration reform. Illegal aliens are taking American jobs, consuming our public services, and driving down the standard of living for all working American citizens. Only when we have secured borders should our legislators begin to address the other issues of comprehensive immigration reform. It is time for our elected members in congress to commit themselves to the representation of all Americans and not special interest groups and their narrowly focused agendas. President Bush hopes to establish a legacy for himself with the passage of comprehensive immigration reform, but sorry Mr. President, your reputation of arrogant incompetence will be your only legacy.

mr inside wrote on 6/22/2007 at 12:19:08i agree with most of what you said!
but, it think everyone knows why the gov't does not want to get rid of the illegals.......$$$$.
the federal & state gov't collects alot of tax money from the illegals pay checks.
what happens to all the unemployment, medicare, social security, state tax withholding, federal tax witholding...etc, that is collected from the illegals paycheck when they use false identification?
the gov't gets to keep the money!
