The Ladies auxiliary met Monday, April 21st with 6 members present. After the opening ritual, a Memorial prayer was read by Chaplin Marjorie Barth and the Charter was draped in honor of Sybil Howell, Mary Helen Deck and Miriam Uphoff. Members discussed their upcoming May 24th bake sale, to be held in front of the Minonk IGA beginning at 8:30 a.m. An election of 2008-09 officers and trustee's was held, also delegates for the District, Department and National conventions were named. Upcoming events include the Loyalty Day held at Bradley post on Saturday April 26th, The final 7th District meeting for the year will be May 4th at Pontiac post 886, and Dept convention will be June 26-29th in Springfield. Officers include: President Agnes Nemmers; Sr Vice president Mary Lou Majesky; Jr Vice president, Lucy Cummings; Secretary, Judy Reeser; Treasurer, Bonita Upts; Chaplin, Marjorie Barth; Conductress, Doris Agnew; Guard, Frieda Kettwich. The Trustee's are, Emily Holt, Frieda Kettwich and Lucy Cummings. All the Program chairman will remain the same, other than VFW-PAC and Doris Agnew will be the chairman. The May 19th meeting will be the Installation of Officers, meeting time will change back to 6:30pm for the summer months. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Memorial Day began in 1865 as an idea by Henry C Wells, in 1866 the idea of putting wreaths, crosses and bouquets on graves to honor the dead began with veterans marching to martial music. The first memorial day was called Decoration Day and observance's were held on May 30th. In today's society, Memorial Day is observed the last Monday in May and has become a holiday weekend. Minonk has the Avenue of Flags in both cemeteries to honor all those who have gone before us. Honor your loved one's and our Veteran's where ever they may be. |
