Memorial Day began in 1865 as an idea by Henry C Wells, in 1866 the idea of putting wreaths, crosses and bouquets on graves to honor the dead began with veterans marching to martial music. The first memorial day was called Decoration Day and observance's were held on May 30th. In today's society, Memorial Day is observed the last Monday in May and has become a holiday weekend.  Minonk has the Avenue of Flags in both cemeteries to honor all those who have gone before us. Honor your loved one's and our Veteran's where ever they may be.

HONOR OUR VETERANS THIS MEMORIAL DAY !!
