Toluca Rotary Announces Service Above Self Scholarships

Saturday, May 23, 2020 - Posted 9:04:18 AM

The Toluca Rotary recently announced the recipients of their annual Service Above Self Scholarships. They want to thank all that applied as it was a very difficult decision since all applicants were exceptional. The club would normally present the scholarship awards to the honorees in front of their families and friends but the Coronavirus shutdown changed those plans.

"This year we had to get creative." said Club President, Bill Fecht. "We wanted to find a way to recognize the students and celebrate their achievements so we decided to present the scholarship winners with a yard sign announcing that. We needed to let them know that the current situation does not diminish their accomplishments. We will also use social media to give each recipient the opportunity to be acknowledged and feel special".

The Toluca Rotary congratulate these deserving students on their achievements and their commitment to serving others. They have each demonstrated an ability to work hard in school, inspire their peers and devote a significant effort to better their schools and their local communities.

This year's recipients of the Service Above Self Scholarships are Zada Baker, Reese Weber and Cassidy Palm.

Zada Baker is the daughter of Rebecca and Howard Baker. She is attending University of Illinois in the fall studying Biological Sciences.

Reese Weber is the daughter of Marla and John Weber. She is attending Rock Valley College in the fall studying Speech Pathology.

Cassidy Palm is the daughter of Beth and Jeremy Palm and was chosen by the Fieldcrest Middle School Staff as the Outstanding 8th grader Service Above Self winner.

Again, congratulations to the 2020 Rotary Service Above Self scholarship winners and best wishes in your future endeavors.
