Fieldcrest Board Meeting Summary

Monday, March 23, 2020 - Posted 11:57:09 AM by Dr. Kari Rockwell

The Fieldcrest Board of Education approved the regular bills and previous month's meeting minutes at their monthly meeting last Wednesday night.

The high school hired Charlotte Hamman for special education and Joshua Jorns for math in the next school year. The middle school hired Sonja Frei for Scholastic Bowl and Lisa Lindstrom for Technology aide for next school year.

The board approved an opening speaker for the August Teacher Institute, updated board policy, IHSA membership for 20-21, construction manager RFQ, the 2020 senior trip, Resolutions for reduction in time for 20-21, and basketball arm and hoop replacement at the Middle School.

During Superintendent Dr. Kari Rockwell's section of the meeting, she shared that while air conditioning will be part of the upgrades at the middle school and high school, it is also planned to ensure air conditioning for all classrooms in the primary and intermediate schools.

The hiring of summer workers will be on hold until the district knows more about student return to school date from the state-mandated closure.

The summer meal program for all students was a discussion that began prior to the state-mandated closure. This is the same program that Fieldcrest is currently using to feed all children within our district. This program feeds all children regardless of status 2 meals per day.

Lastly the board discussed and Dr. Rockwell shared information on how our district has handled the closure. It begins with our staff. Everyone pulled together and has done what is best for our students and families.

Our custodians are sanitizing every surface in the buildings, our transportation crew is delivering meals for ALL children in the district, the kitchen staff prepared over 3400 meals in 1 week with little notice to the drastic changes that would take place. Our secretaries are ensuring that each and every student has the necessary materials and supplies in their home for distance learning. Our teachers and TAs transitioned to a new type of teaching and learning, preparing lessons and materials for students, not knowing when they'd be together again. The actions of the staff exemplify what Fieldcrest stands for: community helping community.
