Local cattlemen win top honors at National Show

DENVER - Shorthorn exhibitors from around the country competed for top honors at the 2005 National Western Stock Show at the American Shorthorn Association Midwest Major PACE Show, held January 11, in Denver, Colo. Jim Williams, Boling, Texas, evaluated the 143 entries.

In the heifer show, brothers Nick and James Sullivan, Dunlap, Iowa, took both of the top spots. Nick's heifer, AF SL Maggies Mirage 301 ET, is a January 2003 daughter of CF Trump X. This white female was first named senior heifer champion. Following Nick was older brother James with CF Myrtle Bo 46 TP X ET, a January 2004 daughter of CF Trump X. This red calf emerged earlier as the junior heifer calf champion.

In the bull show, two calves came to the top. The spring bull calf champion, DPH Contender SP2104 ET, a March 2004, red son of Studers Pretender 96th, was named grand champion bull. This entry was from Dick & Pam Hahn, Minonk, Ill., and Rexlaine Farms Inc., Linden, Ind. The reserve grand champion bull, SS Pure Pride 407 was shown by Schrag Shorthorn Farms, Marion, S.D. The junior bull calf champion was a red, January 2004 son of WHR Sonny 8114 ET.

In the National Western Stock Show Shorthorn Junior PACE Show, top honors went to Bethany, Ill., exhibitor Wesley Wise on Wise's Paige S03, a solid-red July 2003 female. Reserve honors went to Miss V8 Can't Fool Me ET, owned by Zach Ivey, Houston, Texas. This many-time champion female leads the Junior PACE Point Standings. The red-roan female was born in January 2003.

The American Shorthorn Association, headquartered in Omaha, Neb., was founded in 1872 with herd book records going back to 1822.
