Happy Rocks

The last few weeks I have been painting and decorating Happy Rocks! We are hiding them in places around town-businesses, pubic buildings, parks, schools, churches, and well traveled sidewalks. They are there for you to find and hopefully finds some happiness. If you find one please post a picture to my group face book page Happy Rocks at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1981523798793088/. Then you can take it and keep it for good luck; take it and re locate it; or just leave for the next person. Start looking for my brightly colored Happy Rocks! Let's have some fun with this!

Albin Johnson has passed away

Our whole family is deeply saddened to announce the passing away of our father, Albin A. Johnson, during the evening last Wednesday on Sept 6th. He had been in declining health for the last couple of years when his time came to meet his Maker in Heaven. We praise God that dad was not in any pain and went peacefully. Albin lived a blessed life and was married to our mom, Marilyn, for 66 life-filled years. He constantly said his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and their spouses, were truly a blessing in his life. He was 87. Rest in peace Dad. You will be dearly missed.

Eric Johnson

Editor's note: Albin Johnson is a Minonk native who contributed many articles to this website. We extend our condolences to the family.

JT for Police Chief.

Honestly, JT really should be appointed Chief.
He loves the community, obviously the community loves him.
If he is lacking in one of the "qualifications", that's ok. The people of Minonk will stand up for him along with the board.
He has no stipulations or conditions were given for his reinstatement.
In my opinion, he would be the perfect chief.

Scott Sharp

Jason Hoyer: Who would want to be chief in a city were you can't do your job. You get fired or forced to resign if you don't do what the city wants you to do
Michael Cave: Probably why the last one didn't want to uproot his entire life to live there...

Write a note to Texas flood victims at the library

Town Wide Garage Sale Reminder

Everyone:
Just a reminder that the Town Wide Garage Sale is Saturday, September 16th from 8 am until 2 pm. You may list more times if you choose to do so. The fee to participate is $4.00 and I have the sign up forms at Grosenbach's Grocery Store, The Sweet Shop, Minonk Community Bank and as an attachment here. More information is on the sign up sheet then I have written here. Please return the forms to me at 626 Locust Street or in the boxes at the Grosenbach's Grocery Store, The Sweet Shop or Minonk Community Bank. The deadline for filing out the form is Monday, September 11th. After that time I will be emailing everyone a copy of the map of the sales and posting a copy on Minonktalk.com

The sales are advertises in the following papers: the Woodford County Journal and the Woodford Star (goes out to 18,000 people); Streator Times Press; Toluca Star Herald; El Paso Journal. I have checked with publication on distribution dates and they will be distributed before the sale. Each and every ad has the date/time of the town wide garage sale and that the sales will be posted on www.minonktalk.com for everyone to see.

What has been happening is that most people wait until that Sunday or Monday to get their forms to me. That means that there is a lot of work to do between typing up the map, copying the map and distributing it to all of you those next days. If this trend continues you may not receive the maps until that Thursday. So far I have been able to get them out by Wednesday but with this trend it may take a bit longer just an FYI.

If you should have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thanks so much.

Trash in Westside Park Disgusting

The West side park was disgusting this morning. I spent an hour cleaning up all of the trash and cigarette butts around the playground. Is it illegal to smoke in the parks? What can we do as a community to help keep the parks clean, besides having people pick up their trash. (Which obviously is not happening.) My 2 1/2 year old didn't even want to play because she said it was dirty.

Amanda Leigh

Chrissy Harris: Agreed Amanda Leigh! I dont care if its ur job but thank for cleanin our park!! I walk my dog throughpark every day n pick up trash on my way threw.
Amanda Leigh: I am a stay at home mom, and we go to that park all the time and do the same. This time was different though. It was awful. It looked like kids had shredded foam gas station cups and threw them throughout the gravel of the playground. On top of everything else I found. The gazebo by itself was the first picture of trash shown
Michael Cave: The Army has a great way of breaking the throwing cigarette butts on the ground habit... Lol Ive been out almost twenty years now and I still think twice about flinging them. I roll them up and stick them in my pocket.
Melanie Olson Mills: I agree with the trash! I am also concerned with the vandalism. The gazebo is being destroyed. No excuse for this behavior!
Mark Ferguson: Oh wow i didnt know it was illegal to smoke cig at a public park sponcered by everyones tax money but i know if ppl are caught trashing them they will not be aloud in them
Terry Kalkwarf: Amazing to me that people are raising children without one ounce of respect or regard for anything.
Kim Tarmann: I get the same stuff living by the school. No respect.

Donate Diapers to Texas Diaper Bank

As Harvey delivers its wrath to the Gulf area, relief organizations are stepping in to provide assistance to thousands of evacuees. They're providing food, water and shelter. But one thing that they don't always provide is diapers. That can be a real problem for parents of young children. The Texas Diaper Bank in San Antonio is working to get supplies to evacuating families with young children. Please consider donating diapers of all sizes or making a monetary donation. Bring the diapers or donation to Fieldcrest Primary by Friday, September 8th.

Thank you!
