May Baskets

Filger Library is thinking of you on this dreary day. We know that May 1 is Friday, so one of our thoughtful patrons called to recommend something cheery: May baskets! Maybe you could make a simple one of construction paper, wrapped in a cone shape. Decorate the outside. Attach some ribbon for a handle and put treats and paper flowers inside.
Have fun while you surprise a neighbor or grandparents on their porches!

Thanks!

Susan Ryan

Carol J Johnson: This was something we did long ago.
Sue Burger: I'm a former Minonk gal, but left in 1963. One of my favorite things we did was deliver May baskets to our friends. However, one boy broke my heart when he delivered a black May basket, until I found out that was the only color of construction paper he had. But my Dad, Bob Morrison, topped it the best. He had a basket delivered every year to my mom until she passed away. To me that was just love.

Family of Bill Herman Sr.

The family of Bill Herman Sr. would like to thank all friends and family who sent cards, brought balloons, participated in the car parade and stopped by for a window visit. Also, thank you to Heritage Health (El Paso) for making it possible.
We are humbled and grateful to all who made Dads 99th Birthday so very special. He was so touched by all the love.

Dump

Beware

I went out to the dump the other day. There were quite a few boards with nails in them lying around. I would hate to see the dump closed to the public due to sheer ignorance.

School is Over For the Academic Year

Dear Fieldcrest Family,

Today the governor announced that students and staff will not return to physical classrooms this school year. This is heartbreaking news. We miss our students! Our spring was planned with so many fun and exciting activities, events, games, and meets.

We know our students, families, and communities have many questions about continued remote learning, graduation, honors night, prom, the Intermediate House Celebration, the 8th grade promotion celebration, and other important events.

While I do not have exact answers with future dates/times, I can commit to our students, families, and communities that these important milestones will take place in some form or fashion. We fully understand the pride amongst our families and the desire to witness culminating school rituals.

What I have learned over the past 4 weeks is that our partnerships are strong. We are very appreciative of the time, attention, and care parents and families have poured into student learning. Please continue sharing the pictures and videos of the creative projects from your remote learning time.

The Fieldcrest Administration team will meet very soon to discuss the remainder of our school year. Our updated plan will be shared next week. We will plan with the social, emotional, and academic needs of our students as priority #1.

Take Care

Kari L. Rockwell

Food Pantry Instructions

The Minonk Food Pantry is always open the first Thursday of each month from 12 noon to 3 PM. If you plan to come to the May 7 Minonk Food Pantry Day for your first visit, or if you came in April for the first time, we are asking you to please pre-register online anytime before you come. Please register at: WWW.EIFCLIENT.COM. Pre-registering will make the process faster and safer for clients and workers.

Also, again we are asking that clients stay in their vehicle and wait for instructions. Once your cart is filled, it will be rolled out to your car by one of the workers. When he has moved away, you may get out of your car and move your groceries into your car. Once you push the empty cart toward the building, you may get back in your car and leave. We appreciate your help while we try to social distance.

Statement to the Community from Fieldcrest Board

Dear Fieldcrest students, parents and those who live in the Fieldcrest district,

During this uncertain and uneasy time the Fieldcrest Board of Education would like to communicate to the students, parent and those living in our district.

As we continue to learn about COVID 19 and the effects it has had, our Board of Education remains very involved and supportive with decisions our leadership is making. While some of these decisions have been very difficult to make these decisions have been made to ensure the health and safety of our Fieldcrest students and staff.

A couple of things the Fieldcrest Board of Education would like to remind our families: breakfast and lunches will continue to be offered to all enrolled students (any age) and all non-Fieldcrest children 18 and under. Distant learning will continue to take place through April 30, 2020 which is the date directed by Governor Pritzker. Our students and staff are all working very hard to make the best of this situation and while we understand there are challenges with this process we will continue to support the staff with how our students are being educated.

We know there are still a lot of unanswered questions and unfortunately that will continue. We are certain our leadership will continue to do an outstanding job with communication. Our staff has gone above and beyond to make this transition as smooth as possible for our students and for that are extremely thankful! Please continue to be patient with this situation and we will continue to follow our leadership in the upcoming days.

The Fieldcrest Board of Education,
MyKin Bernardi, President
Jordan Meyer, Vice President

Thanks to Fieldcrest Family for Supporing Blood Drive

On Friday, April 3, the Key/Interact Club hosted a Red Cross Blood drive. Normally this blood drive is focused on student donors, but due to the school closure, the club reached out to the community for support.

As always in our Fieldcrest family, the communities came through. We had 58 presenting donors and collected 63 units of blood. Even after filling all the available appointments, people continued to call and volunteer to donate. Because every appointment was filled, we were unable to accept walk-in donors.

The Key/Interact Club is especially grateful to Garret Piasse. Since we could not use our normal student organizers, Garret, who had previously organized the blood drives, stepped in and took over the coordinator role. His help was invaluable. Thank you Fieldcrest family for your support of this event!
