Response to Agenda article | Searching for genealogist in the area | Fieldcrest Band Boosters Meeting Feb. 23rd |

Response to Agenda article

I would like to respond to the statement in this article that indicates the Mayor told Elder not to put my requested item on the agenda because I did not meet the 48 hour deadline prior to the meeting. This statement is inaccurate and was never stated by the Mayor or Elder. The fact is that the Mayor stated during the Feb. 06 meeting that he directed Elder not to place my request on the agenda because he did not want the council to be able to take action on the discussed issue. At the Feb. 20th meeting the City Attorney told the council that it is in fact the council's agenda, the Mayor and Elder can't prevent the council from having items placed on it. It is Elder's position I made the request on Thursday Feb. 02 which is well within the 48 hour deadline before the Monday night meeting. At no time was it stated the reasoning for the denial of my request being placed on the agenda was due to me not submitting it within the timeline.

Editor's reply: I was told by the City Attorney after the meeting that the request did not meet the 48 hour deadline since Friday was the deadline, not Monday. That is where I got my information.
