James Sample in uniform

This photo was taken from a November 11, 1943 article in the Minonk News-Dispatch. Second Lieutenant James D. Sample of Minonk is shown at the right in the picture. He was a student pilot at Randolph Field in Texas and was listening to his instructor First Lt. James J. McDonnell plot a course for a cross-country hop. The student on the left is 2nd. Lt. Clarence S. Hart of Decatur. He and Sample were training to become instructors at the American Air Force flying fields during World War II.
