J. W. VanDoren jewelry store

We believe this photo was taken inside the J. W. VanDoren jewelry store on the 500 block of Chestnut Street. VanDoren ran the jewelry store for many years. Later Howard Palmer ran a jewelry store in the same location. The building is now vacant.

The back of this picture has the words "Minonk Variety Store" and its owners then were Harry Johnson and Alvin Anderson.

Martha Schlosser worked here, before her marriage to William Grassman in 1911. She often talked about the beautiful dishes, vases and glassware they sold in the store, and she cherished several pieces she had in her home.
