South Chestnut Street around 1900

This is a  photo of the 400 block of Chestnut Street looking north from Fourth Street.   The picture was probably taken before 1900 as the streets are still unpaved.  Behind the horses at the right is the old bandstand that stood at the corner of Fifth and Chestnut.  The building to the right in front of the horses is the office for a grain elevator.  Notice the hitching posts on the right side of the street.
