Washington, DC – Today, the House passed landmark legislation that fosters innovation and provides a once-in-a-generation opportunity to help researchers change the way we fight disease. After joining his colleagues in voting in favor of the 21st Century Cures Act, Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) released the following statement:

"The 21st Century Cures Act is an innovation game-changer for health care in the United States. I'm proud to work on the House Energy and Commerce Committee where Chairman Upton has championed this bill from day one.

"The Cures Act makes research more collaborative, focuses on the patient, and puts us on a path to finding cures for the thousands of diseases that plague millions here at home and around the world. The bill contains funding for state grants to address the opioid epidemic, funding to focus on brain-related diseases like Alzheimer's and includes legislation to address the country's mental health crisis. I urge my Senate colleagues to act soon to keep the momentum going on this critically important legislation."

The bill received overwhelming bipartisan support in the House tonight, and is expected to be voted on in the Senate early next week. Additionally, over 300 outside groups have shared their support for the legislation.
