Mike Phillips (D-Lostant) candidate for State Representative in the 106th
District, conceded the race for the 106th Legislative District.
“I would
like to thank all of the people who helped me in my effort to bring better
representation to the 106th District. We made a good effort; unfortunately, the
voters were not willing to cross over and cast a vote for a
Democrat.
“This has been a very positive experience for me. I met a lot
of people who encouraged me and gave me good, encouraging advice. I am grateful
to those who were willing to contribute their time, money, or both in order to
help me along this journey.”
During his campaign Phillips placed
education at the forefront of his agenda and proposed putting the State budget
on the internet. “I hope that our elected officials in Springfield decide to
become the leaders we would like them to be. Over the next few years, the State
needs to fix the budget deficit, fund our schools and pensions, and invest more
in the roads and facilities we all depend on.
“I urge our Representative,
Keith Sommer, to become more active. He has some good ideas, and I hope he
starts writing the legislation necessary to move them forward.”
Phillips
thanked everyone who took the time to vote in the election. “I will continue to
work on the issues I think are important. One of my goals will be to improve
voter participation by educating my students and encouraging them to become
involved in the political process.”
Phillips sought to represent the
106th Illinois House District, which covers portions of LaSalle, Livingston,
McLean, Tazewell, and Woodford Counties in central Illinois.
