The Wenona Rotary Club is having Mike Haag, from the Illinois Pork Producers Association as their speaker Nov. 22, 2010. He will be speaking on “the pork industry: more than just the other white meat”. The meeting is at the Rotary meeting room at the Bi Centennial Room at 102 S Walnut St. in Wenona. Mike Haag and his brother-in-law Jeff Stark, co-manage Haag Farms, a 2,000-acre diversified grain and hog operation in Emington, IL. Mike and Jeff run the farm’s 1,200 head farrow (birth) to finish (market) swine operation that produces approximately 24,000 pigs each year. They also grow corn and soybeans. Haag Farms is owned by Mike’s father, Dewaine Haag, and has been in the family for nearly 100 years.
Mike has been a member of the Ill Pork Producers Association (IPPA) since 1986 and has served on its board of directors since 2004. Mike got his associate degree in agriculture in 1988 from Lake Land JC College in Mattoon, IL. And a BS in animal science from the U of I in Urbana-Champaign, Il in 1990.
Mike and his wife, Trisha, and their three children, Kaleb, Brooke, and Kacie, live in Emington where they are active in the St John’s Catholic Church. Mike enjoys water skiing and scuba diving in his spare time.
