One of the benefits afforded to the ladies who are members of a Veterans of Foreign War's auxiliary, is they may qualify for a Cancer Grant. They must be a member at least one year to any VFW auxiliary, and have had cancer surgery within the past 12 months. They must be a current paid member, and the grant is not available if the woman is now deceased. Several of our members have taken advantage of the Cancer Grant, which helps with medical expenses. The application must be filled out by your physician as well. Applications are sent to the National Ladies auxiliary in Kansas City, MO for approval. Any member applying, can receive 2 cancer grants in their life time. Auxiliary ladies with the Cancer Grants are Nancy Stock and Judy Reeser, contact one of these ladies if you are interested.
In addition to supporting the research at specific facilities, the ladies organization awards a 2 year $100,000 Postdoctoral Cancer Research Fellowship, to a doctor who has a promising career in Research. A panel of his peer's review applications and select a doctor who has the most innovative and promising idea's on his cancer research projects.
The Minonk VFW ladies have been selling Raffle tickets on a 50x60 " Patriotic Quilted Afghan. With the proceeds from the raffle, the ladies will be donating that money to the Cancer Aide and Research program in honor of Agnes Nemmers our past President, and in honor and memory of all the families in the Minonk area who have been affected in one way or another by this disease.
