PONTIAC, Ill. -- State Senator Dan Rutherford (R-Pontiac) would like to take
an opportunity to inform constituents of an upcoming Illinois State tax amnesty
period.
Senate Bill 377 creates a one-time tax amnesty period from October 1, 2010 to
November 8, 2010. The Illinois Department of Revenue will administer the
program and waive all interest and penalties on tax liabilities incurred
between June 30, 2002 and July 1, 2010 for those who contact the department.
“Everyone should pay their taxes on time and in full, but this is a chance for
those who were unable to meet their state tax obligations to fulfill their debt
and save money by not having to pay interest and penalties,” Senator Rutherford
said. “Since this applies to all taxes that are collected by the Department of
Revenue, I encourage people to carefully review this option.”
Failure to satisfy a liability for the period covered by the amnesty program
will result in the doubling of any penalty.
