Minonk Inundated With 6 inches of Rain

Friday, September 27, 2019 - Posted 4:29:03 PM

The Minonk area received up to 5 and 3/4 inches of rain Friday afternoon causing flooding in the streets and in residential basements. The rain started around 11 am and gradually increased in intensity throughout the afternoon. By 3 pm the rain started to subside. In addition to the rain, the lightning strikes were frequent and strong.  Tornado warnings were also issued during the storm.

The rain couldn't have come at a worse time for the farmers as they are getting ready to get into the fields to harvest the crops. After a wet spring that delayed crop planting the last thing the farmers need is a wet fall that will delay the harvest.

More rain is called for on Friday night which will make the flooding even worse.
