Cole Jones, 5 years old attends Kindergarten at Fieldcrest Primary, is in his first season of driving a Quarter Midget race car and is already picking up several wins! Cole races at ALQMA outside of Lincoln, Illinois (which is considered his home track). He has won several times at his home track picking up heat wins as well as feature wins! He traveled to Springfield during the State Fair and won that race. He also has traveled to regional races in Granite City, Illinois winning heat races and then picking up 2nd and 5th place in the features.

Most recently September 15 and 16th Cole traveled to Joliet, Illinois to the USAC Nationals which was a pavement race. Cole is used to racing on dirt tracks so his Dad and Grandpa had to completely redo his car and prepare it for asphalt. Cole took the heat win there and came out in 3rd place in the nation. Very impressive since he races dirt normally and it was his first time on asphalt. On Friday night, the USAC drivers were taken to the NASCAR truck race to be included in the NASCAR truck driver introductions, which was a very neat experience for those kids to think that that could be them some day.

Cole's season is winding down as October Saturdays will be the last of the outdoor racing. His home track is on the schedule the first two Saturdays and then he will race at Springfield Illinois State Fairgrounds the last weekend. His family is thinking indoor racing in DuQuoin, Illinois could be a possibility for him once a month through the winter.

Racing has helped Cole all around and has become a family event for his family to enjoy together even his little sister Kinsley enjoys sitting in his car! He is the son of Kayla and Josh Jones of Minonk. Grandson of Lyle and Linda Bearss of Minonk, Pat and Bill Jones of Wenona. Great Grandson to Larry and Lois Bearss of Minonk, Eugene and Sharon Nenne of Toluca and Robert and Alice Schaefer of Streator.

If anyone should have any interest in getting their child into a Quarter Midget, ALQMA (Abraham Lincoln Quarter Midget Associaton) is having an Arrive and Drive on Saturday, October 14th from 9-1. for ages 4.5 to 16 This would include the car and all safety equipment for your child including remote kill switch. The only thing they ask is that your child wear tennis shoes. it is $10 for 10 laps (CASH ONLY) and you do get a hot dog and drink for each driver. After the arrive and drive there is a fun race which Cole will be racing at approx. 4:30-5:00.
