2nd
Amendment After Mayor Daley
Chicago Mayor Richie Daley has
pushed legislation for many years that would limit our 2nd Amendment
Rights. Even though Daley is soon
retiring, this is no time for 2nd Amendment supporters to become
complacent. His wannabe successors,
unfortunately, are likely cut from the same cloth.
Rudy
Giuliani
I met former New York Mayor Rudy
Giuliani Monday. Wouldn’t be surprised
if he ran for President again in 2012.
He said we have to stop our drift toward European socialism, encourage
entrepreneurial growth instead of government growth, and strengthen national
defense. Right on Rudy!
Illinois
Rams?
Do you support Gov. Quinn’s
notion of building a new stadium for the St. Louis Rams in Illinois? I didn’t think so!
RP Lumber
Pre-Election Sale
I recently asked Jason Plummer,
GOP candidate for Lt. Governor, if his family-owned business, RP Lumber, would
be having a pre-election sale for all us do-it-yourselfers. He thought it was a great idea, so keep
watching for those ads this fall. My
house could use some attic insulation…how about yours?
Legislative
Speeders
It is well known that some state
legislators try to take advantage of having special legislative license plates
on their cars and drive at high speeds.
One Chicago Representative complained to some of us that she had been
stopped and ticketed on her way home from Springfield.
She received little sympathy, however, when we learned she was driving
108 mph! (By the way, I don’t use
legislative plates on my car.)
Illinois
Route
8
Illinois Route 8 between
East Peoria and Washington continues to be upgraded to a full
four-lane highway. While U.S.
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood recently credited legislators for the
progress, it is actually the people of these two fine communities that deserve
the kudos. Good job Mayors Gary, Don,
Chuck and Dave! Perseverance pays
off.
Sheriffs/Citizens Need Prisoner Release
Info
At a recent hearing I
participated in regarding the state’s early release of prisoners, it was learned
from Tazewell Sheriff Bob Huston and Peoria Sheriff Mike McCoy that even they
aren’t notified when some past violent offenders from their counties have been
released from prison. It’s time to
change that foolishness. Thanks, Bob and
Mike!
Cross
Plan
House Republican Leader Tom Cross
has proposed a plan to change House Rules to allow important legislation to be
heard and brought to a vote when large numbers of legislators have already
indicated support for it. Now, Speaker
Madigan or one of his cohorts, alone, can stop it. This change is just common sense. Time to make it truly the “people’s
House.”
Gov. Edgar
Praises Eureka College
I was at Eureka College last week when former Gov. Jim
Edgar praised the institution for providing the “beginning” for the public
service career of President Ronald Reagan.
Not bad from a guy now teaching at the University of Illinois.
Yes, indeed, small town Central Illinois and Eureka College have a lot to offer.
Congerville
Memorial
Park
I spoke Saturday at the
dedication of Congerville’s Memorial Park.
This town’s first park honors those who have served their community and
country over the years. No state or
federal money was spent. Their
philosophy? If it’s important enough to
do, they’ll find a way to do it themselves!
El Paso Corn
Fest/Eureka FFA/Congerville Fundfest
I had a busy weekend walking in
the El Paso Corn Festival Parade, bidding at the Eureka FFA Auction, and buying
raspberry pies at the Congerville Fire Department Fundfest. Great communities all!
Diet Plan
Delayed/Morton Pumpkin Festival Arrives
Pumpkin pie, pumpkin chili,
pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin pancakes – I guess my diet to lose a few pounds will
be put on hold this week. See you at the
parade Saturday if not in the food tent!
