Hein Construction has now completed the eastern leg of the storm sewer along 4th Street, terminating at the intersection of 4th & Walnut. They will now work their way across 4th Street to construct the "cornfield leg" of the project, crossing 4th between Johnson and Lincoln. They will then install pipe on an easement across private property at 315 W. 4th until they reach the cornfield behind the properties on the south side of 4th. The "cornfield leg" will have two drainage inlets installed near the cornfield, will separate storm water from the sanitary sewer that services homes along 4th Street and will tie a field drainage tile that currently empties into the sanitary sewer into the new storm sewer.
Nicor Gas has relocated gas main that was in conflict with the storm sewer, and the temporary storm pipe installed earlier to circumvent the conflict has been replaced with the permanent pipe.
Sidewalk construction along the storm sewer path continues at a great pace.
On a very positive note, our public works crew reports that the volume of water received at the wastewater treatment plant during the last significant rainfall event was noticeably less than what has been observed in the past. We're already seeing good results from this project. Doug Elder
