The Fieldcrest Project Ignition team was very successful on August 3, 2011. The group had the opportunity to bring their pledge wall to the Peoria Chiefs game. The group was happy to see over 50 of our Fieldcrest family in attendance as well as 240 who can out to sign the pledge wall not to text and drive. 19 Chiefs player signed the wall along with Homer (the Chiefs mascot), Pete and Rockey Vonachen (owners of the Chiefs), Jim Mattson from WHOI TV, and Tom Ricketts owner of the Cubs.
One of the great things about talking with all of the people signing the wall is to hear their stories about how this epidemic if affecting so many lives. The group talked to a woman in her 60’s who was attending the game last night from Texas. The woman was in a wheel chair and badly injured from an accident she cause by looking at a text message while driving. This lady made a huge impact on the kids with her story; she took the pledge and said appreciated all of our efforts to help make a difference.
After the game all kids in attendance had the opportunity to run the bases. Thanks to the Peoria Chiefs for a great night and opportunity for us to spread a very importance message.
The FOCUSED group will be continuing their “No Texting tour”. Look for us at the following events. August 10th, Wenona Days dancing with the Stars, August 14th, Wenona Days burns outs, August 16th, Illinois State Fair, August 20th Toluca Car show, September 3, 2011 Normal Corn belters game, September 5th Toluca Labor Day.
