The 86th Annual Department Convention for Post and Auxiliary members will be held June 24th to June 27th, at the Convention Center in downtown Springfield. There will be a joint Memorial Service on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. and a joint Opening Session meeting on Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. On Friday evening there is a Patriotic Rally at 6:00 p.m. for everyone to show their patriotism and wear our patriotic colors.
Our local VFW ladies will have their June meeting on the 21st, 1:00 p.m. at South Haven community room. Dues notice letters have been sent out to all members, dues can be paid to the auxiliary Treasurer, as indicated in the letters.
The ladies are planning an August trip to the LaSalle Veterans home, to visit with veterans there and see their new building, following the tour, they plan to have lunch in LaSalle-Peru area. The ladies have invited our Post men and their wives to join us on this trip, to visit with the veterans. If you have a family member at the LaSalle home, you can advise our Post Commander, Jim Jacek, and we will visit with your relative while we are there.
The ladies have a list of items the veterans can use, we will be taking various items, such as diabetic socks, shaving cream, razors, after shave, brush and combs for the men. If anyone would like to send a item to the veterans, you can bring it to the ladies meeting on June 21st or July 19th at South Haven community room, and we will see that your donation is given to the veterans. Our meetings are at 1:00 p.m.
Did you know, the Buddy Poppies, the little red flowers that are made in honor of all of our veterans, are made by the older veterans in some of the VA homes? At one time, they were put together by a group of men at the LaSalle veterans home.. when you make a donation for a poppy, you are helping the veterans who are making the Buddy Poppies. They can use all the support that we give them ! Thank you !!
