Minonk Public Works Director Charlie McGuire has got everything ready for the Ladderball Tournament to be held at Minonk's Annual July 4th Celebration. McGuire has constructed 2 ladderball sets to be used in this year's festivities. McGuire put together the ladderball sets from PVC tubing which can be easily broken down and stored when finished playing.
The game consists of two ladders 30 feet apart. Each team, which consists of 2 players, will have a member at both ends. Up to 3 teams can compete. The object of the game is to throw a bola, which is a 13 inch nylon string containing a golf ball at both ends, onto a ladder rung.
The goal is to have a bola wrap around one of the rungs of the ladder. The top rung is worth 3 points, the second rung 2 points, and the bottom rung 1 point.
A team member will throw all 3 bolas before the member of the other team throws their bolas. Bolas can be knocked off by opposing teams. To win the game, a team must score exactly 21 points. If 5 points are needed to win and a team makes 6 points, none of the points count.
Included with the ladderball set is a scoring ladder where markers can be slid to the scoring side as points are made.
The winner of the ladderball tournament will receive the ladderball sets as their prize which are donated by McGuire. A practice session for ladderball contestants will be held on June 28th in Suttons Park. The ladderball tournament will be held on July 5th as part of the July 4th festivities.
