Memorial Day services announced

Minonk American Legion Post 142 met Tuesday evening with 7 members present. Plans were made in cooperation with the Minonk VFW and the Fieldcrest High School to conduct Memorial Day services at the high school gym on Monday May 28, @ 10 A.M. The public is invited to attend. Cemetery roll call will be held as well as musical selections and some speeches by high school students. Arthur Oldenburg will be honored for membership in the local VFW for 60 years. Also to be honored for 60 continuous years membership in the American Legion are: Howard Builta, Wesley Ford, Garmer Kleen Jr., Arthur Oldenburg, Hercules Paloumpis and Gene Tweedt. Certificates will be presented for these honors at this Memorial Day Service. Also a 60 year certificate will be presented posthumously in the name of John Earl Cunningham who died in April. Members of the American Legion and VFW would appreciate a good attendance at this service.

The small veteran’s grave marker flags will be placed at the graves of veterans in the cemeteries. Anyone wishing to help with this task, please meet at the entrance of Minonk Township Cemetery at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, May 23.

Next meeting of Post 142 will be at the former Patriot Restaurant 7:30 June 5. All members invited to attend.
