American Legion Post 142 Meeting held

American Legion Post 142 of Minonk met Tuesday May 2, 2006.  Ten members and 4 guests were present.  Rick Butler was welcomed as a new member.  He gave an interesting talk of his military experiences in Iraq and before that in Korea.

It was reported that Steve White will manage an American Legion Boy’s baseball team for 15 and 16 year old boys of Fieldcrest School District and it was decided to donate $500 to this baseball program.

It was also decided to donate $50 in helping to sponsor James C. Leigh, a Fieldcrest student, in the People to People program with his trip to Australia.

Gene Tweedt, who is in charge of grave marker flags at local cemeteries announced that volunteers who are willing to help place these flags on veteran’s graves should meet at the Minonk Township Cemetery at 2:30 PM Thursday May 25, 2006.  Volunteers are welcome and will be appreciated in helping with this task.

It was decided to hold a drawing with prizes the same as last year to raise funds for community projects.

It was decided to hold Memorial Day Services at the High School Gym at 10:00 AM, Monday May 29, 2006 to be sponsored jointly with the local VFW.  The general public is invited and encouraged to attend.

At that service the following American Legion members will be honored and presented with certificates commemorating 60 years of continuous membership:

Bonner Baker, Kenneth Cunningham, William J. Cunningham, Lowell Forney, William H. Herman, John Lohr, Joseph Petri, Norbert Petri, Virgil Petri, Ralph Rossman, Tena Tarman, Wayne Tucker and Norman A. Young.

Certificates commemorating 50 years of continuous membership will be presented to:

Donald Meierhofer and Ulrich J. Schneider.
