Meals on Wheels needs Volunteers

The Minonk Meals on Wheels program needs volunteers to help deliver meals to shut ins and the elderly. Eileen Bane, director of the program, said there is a need for more volunteers as the current volunteers have been making up for the shortage by donating more of their time. Each volunteer is asked to donate one day a month to deliver meals between 11:00 - 11:15 am. Two volunteers are needed each day to deliver about 17-20 meals which takes only about 15-20 minutes. Ms. Bane said that meals are delivered Monday through Thursday which would require 40 volunteers for a month. Presently, there are only 20 volunteers. The meals are prepared and delivered from the Heritage Manor Nursing Home.
Ms. Bane said that the program is no longer funded by the state but Instead is funded by donations. The program not only provides a nutrious meal for those unable to prepare their own, it also enables shut ins to have contact with other people and is a very worthwhile program for the community.
Anyone wishing to volunteer to deliver meals on wheels should contact Eileen Bane at 309-432-2809. If you wish to contribute to the meals on wheels fund, send your contribution to Pastor Pamela Gansch-Boythe at St. Paul's Church, 236 West Fifth Street, Minonk, IL 61760.
