The Minonk ladies auxiliary began in January 1949 as an auxiliary to the Minonk 7185 VFW Post. Over the past 61 years there have been many changes take place, both with in the auxiliary and the Post.
Our ladies lost our long standing President, Agnes Nemmers in December 2009, as well as other long time members. As a result, the number of active members has changed and today, there are 8 ladies who are currently active. The auxiliary has 49 members on our Roster, however, many of those ladies are elderly, many live far away from Minonk and no longer are involved in the programs and projects of the auxiliary. It may seem, that 8 women could handle all the work involved in a small auxiliary, this is not necessarily true. The Department and National organizations require many dedicated hours be given to them, along with reports, reports, reports !!
After several months of painful consideration, the active ladies have decided, it would be best if our auxiliary disband, and members can transfer to another auxiliary close by. Those close would be Pontiac 886 and Bloomington 454 auxiliaries, both have a Post home and monthly meetings, along with activities the ladies can become involved in, if they wish.
The date of June 30, 2011, will be the last day for the auxiliary. Any current members who were sent letters in January, should contact Judith Reeser, Treasurer, with what option you plan to take, which includes transferring to another auxiliary, becoming a member at large, or no longer a member in any VFW auxiliary. There will be no dues notice's being mailed to members.
The active ladies plan to continue meeting as a group, just not as an auxiliary, any current members who would like to join us are welcome. We have several idea's of fun things we would like to do, including a visit to the LaSalle Veterans home and lunch in LaSalle. There will be more information coming later.
Current active members include, Mary Lou Majesky, Nancy Stock, Lucy Cummings, Erma Johnson, Doris Agnew, Sharon Barth, Joann Greathouse, Lavern Kearfott, and Judy Reeser.
REMEMBER OUR VETERANS WHO ARE DEPLOYED AND THOSE IN V.A. AND NURSING HOMES.
