LaVon Cline , along with her husband Don, recently purchased
and remodeled the
restaurant at the south end of town. They are officially open and doing business.
Of course, LaVon says they still have things to work out,
but everything is coming
together .
LaVon Cline, nee Huber, was born in North
Dakota, moved to Minonk with her parents when she was
in the sixth grade, graduated from high school then went to work for General
Telephone in Bloomington. On April
12, 1986 she was wed to Don Cline, a life-long resident of Minonk,
and they became parents of Erin and Brandon
When GE decided to do a corporate down-sizing after LaVon
had been there 21 years, she left the company.
Having 2 children, a husband, and a brand new grandson, Ryan, was not
enough to keep her busy so the Clines decided they would take on the restaurant
business. They had had some previous
experience during the time they had managed the Third Base Tap and LaVon had
done mostly short order cooking. She has
since become very adept at char-broiling steaks on the new grill, and has a
much larger menu than before, including chicken dinners that are rumored to be
excellent!
The new facility will be capable of catering to banquets,
rehearsal dinners, private parties and many other functions. The banquet room seats 125 people, can accommodate karoake or
a live band, has room for a dancing, and has private access to the bar and
kitchen. Meals are served every day from
11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and carry-outs are available. Their phone number is 432-3432.
LaVon says she loves to cook and that it’s not like she is
even going to work. So, come on in,
enjoy the food and drink, socialize with friends and family, and wish Don and
LaVon good luck.
