Developers of the proposed raceway north of Minonk will make a
presentation to the public at 7:15 p.m., March 17, at the Fieldcrest
High School gymnasium. The raceway operations manager will make
the presentation. A representative from the International Hod Rod
Association will also be on hand.
The city is currently conducting talks with developer Randy Hellyer
to finalize the plans for the complex that would include a 1/4 mile
dragstrip, a 2/5 mile oval track and a 2 and 1/2 mile road track.
CIty Administrator Trent Smith said that the city council will discuss
the proposed raceway at its next meeting on March 26 and may vote on
the proposal. Public comments will be heard before any vote is
taken.
If the raceway proposal is accepted, the developers will purchase
the entire section of land north of Minonk for development of the
raceway. The land is currently owned by U. S. Waste
Management. This action would remove the possibility of locating
a landfill on that site.
The doors will be open at 7:00 p.m. for the presentation.
