Springfield – For over a year, State Senator Dan
Rutherford has been working to secure increased financial support for nursing
home facilities in Illinois. Monday, Governor Blagojevich approved
Rutherford’s legislation, which allocates millions of
dollars in additional funding to state nursing
homes.
The legislation,
Public Act 1087, secures between $33 and $36 million for
Illinois nursing homes on an annual basis which is
intended to finance the support costs of Medicaid nursing homes. These costs
include facility operating expenses such as property, liability and malpractice
insurance.
Senator
Rutherford commented that, “Illinois nursing homes provide care and support to
some of the state’s most frail residents. This funding will ensure that
Illinois’ senior citizens are provided the best
medical care and service possible.”
Public Act 1087
becomes effective retroactive to January 1,
2005.
