Normal, IL – A lifelong commitment to education by Dorothy Uphoff Camp has been recognized by her children Donald and Beatrice Camp, family members and friends through the establishment of The Dorothy Uphoff Camp Endowed Scholarship Fund at Illinois State University. Designed to provide financial support for business teacher education majors, it is open to candidates with at least a 3.0 GPA, and an ACT composite score of 24 or above, who have demonstrated a commitment to serving others through extra-curricular and community involvement.
Throughout her career Dorothy Uphoff Camp, born and raised in Hudson, IL, maintained a strong appreciation for the professional foundation provided by Illinois State Normal University. A 1940 graduate, Camp taught in Lewiston, IL, and served in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II. She earned a master’s degree in education from Columbia Teacher’s College in New York where she met her future husband, fellow GI Bill student Daniel Camp.
During her career Camp taught business subjects including typing, shorthand and business math in Alabama, Texas, Florida, Virginia, Maryland and Thailand and supported student groups such as the Future Business Leaders of America. She retired as a business educator in 1987 and lived in the Washington, DC area until her death in 2010.
