The Fieldcrest Board of Education will decide on whether to move the Fieldcrest High School baseball games from Minonk to Wenona at its March 15th meeting. Minonk resident Christie Ruestman brought up the issue at the Board's meeting on February 15th at Wenona after the Fieldcrest baseball coach had requested the move because he felt
the diamond does not drain well enough and has caused cancellation of
some games. Ruestman said that the baseball games should be played where the school is located. She said she doesn't want to have her kids driving up dangerous Route 251 in order to practice or play baseball. Ruestman also stated that the City of Minonk has pledged $25,000 to upgrade the ball diamond this summer. Minonk Debbie Ripple said that she has transported her children back and forth from Minonk to Toluca or Wenona when they were in the fourth and fifth grade and she doesn't want to have to continue that while they are in high school. She said, "I put in my time".
Fieldcrest Superintendent Randy Vincent said that he felt that the decision to move the baseball games to Wenona was an administrative decision and that there was a legitimate reason to move the games. However, Board member Melinda Tiraboschi told Vincent that the Board had agreed in the past to play all sporting events at the school the sports team attends. She said that is the case with the middle school games and the high school basketball games.
Vincent replied that since the Board has brought up the issue that it should be brought to a vote. The Board agreed to vote at their next meeting on March 15th at Toluca on whether the Fieldcrest baseball games should be moved from Minonk to Wenona.
