Black Partridge Chapter of DAR Honors High School Seniors

The Black Partridge Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution honored seven Woodford and Marshall County High School seniors at their award program on Monday, February 12, 2018. Each of the seniors received the Good Citizen Award. The students were chosen by their high school for their qualities of good character which the DAR emphasize as being dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism. Each person had several documents to send back to the DAR Chapter and then they are judged by three non DAR people. The winning documents were send on to the District level and judged again. Grace Cushing, a senior at Metamora Township High School, had her documents forwarded on to the the District. Grace is the daughter of Teresa and Richard Cushing of Germantown Hills.

Six other high school students were honored and presented the Good Citizen Award. Sarah Schug is a senior at El Paso-Gridley High School. Her parents are Darain and Susan Schug of El Paso, IL. Nathaniel Overocker is a senior at Fieldcrest High School. His parents are Jessica and Brian Overocker from Dana, IL. Zackary Weber is a senior at Midland High School. His parents are Ryan and Lisa Weber from Lacon, IL. Samuel Metcalfe is a senior at Eureka, High School. His parents are Richard and Rebecca Metcalfe from Eureka, IL. Madison Darrow is from Lowpoint Washburn High School. Her parents are Danette and Gary Darrow from Lowpoint, IL. Seth Durand is from Roanoke-Benson High School. His parents are Tom and Marsha Durand of Roanoke, IL.

The Black Partridge Chapter also honored two Community Service Awards. The two awards went to Jim and Mary Lou Jacek of Minonk, IL for their outstanding volunteer work in their community.

The speaker for the event was Riley Metzger, director of student ministries at Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington, IL.

A time of refreshments and sharing followed the program. We say thank you to all the parents, teachers, community people, and friends that have helped raise these wonderful young people. Each of them deserved the Good Citizen award.
